Tigers Fall In Game 2 To Grambling State

For the second straight day, Grambling State used a big inning to take control as they defeated TSU 20-9.
 
Grambling State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third after a three-run homer but TSU quickly answered in the bottom half as CJ Castillo led the inning off with a walk and moved to second on Daalen Adderley’s single. Alexander Olivo drove both in with a two-RBI double followed by Ron Brown’s hit by pitch. Roderick Coffee moved TSU ahead 5-3 with a three-run homer. Chase Cromer followed it up with a double and scored on Michael Goudeau’s RBI double for a 6-3 lead.
 
TSU was on the verge of a quick fourth inning with two quick outs but the bottom fell out right after. A pair of wild pitches led to a GSU run as the next nine batters reached based consecutively either via walks or hit by pitches as the deficit grew to 11-6 despite allowing no hits. TSU was forced to use three relievers in the inning and GSU recorded its first hit on a three-RBI double for a 14-6 lead.
 
Olivo drove in a run in the fourth and CJ Castillo homered in the sixth as TSU trailed 14-8. However, GSU scored six more runs over the final two innings to pull away for good.
 
Castillo went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI while Olivo was 3-for-6 with four RBI. Michael Goudeau was 3-for-4 followed by two hits from Adderley and Cromer.
 
Domenic Martinez fell to 6-3 after lasting 3.2 innings as TSU struggled at the mound with a combined 15 walks.
 
The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.
