Brooks Wins 200, Women’s Track & Field Has 21 Top-10 Marks At Rice

Shelby Brooks claimed the 200-meter title as the TSU women’s track & field team had 21-top 10 marks at the J Fred Duckett Twilight Meet.
 
Erica Grant finished second in the evening session of the 100 while Destinee Payne and Amber Butler placed sixth and eighth in the morning part of the 100.
 
Shelby Brooks won the 200-meter title after a season-best run while Grant, Bayli George, Tyeler Moore and Avia Trammel finished second, fourth, seventh and eighth. Brooks finished fourth followed by George’s sixth-place performance in the 400 as both moved to sixth and seventh in the SWAC, respectively.
 
TSU had a strong showing in the 100-meter hurdles as Desirae Roberts, Adayshia Coleman and Lyriq Ray placed second, third and seventh, respectively. Roberts, who also ran a season-best in the 100-meter hurdles, placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best mark as she ranks fifth overall in the SWAC.
 
The 4×100-meter relay of Trammell, Payne, Moore and Grant placed sixth. The mile relay team of Roberts, Trammell, Brooks and George placed second after running a season-best time.
 
Morgan Haywood finished sixth in the pole vault while Payne finished ninth in the triple jump. Gianna Trotter placed ninth in the discus while Angela Sanchez and Morgan Haywood finished eighth-ninth in the hammer.
 
TSU is back in action in two weeks at the SWAC Championships in Baton Rouge, La.
