Baseball Conclues Series Against Grambling Going 1-2

The Texas Southern University baseball team went 1-2 against Grambling State in a three-game weekend series at Wilbert Ellis Field last weekend.

Game 1: TSU 17, GSU 12 

After the fourth inning, the game was tied at three runs each. Grambling State plated one run at the bottom of the fifth and two runs at the bottom of the sixth to lead 6-3. Texas Southern put up a big inning at the top of the seventh as they scored six runs on four hits and one error to regain the lead 9-6. Michael Goudeau highlighted the inning with a 2-run homer 

CJ Castillo led off the top of the eighth inning with a homer to left field as TSU led 10-8. The glory wouldn’t be over for the team as Jaden Jones would also homer in the inning for three RBIs as Texas Southern picked up five runs on four hits. Four TSU batters walked in the inning as well. 

Castillo led Texas Southern at the plate going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Jones went 4-for-6 with five RBIs and three runs. Dade Hensley (3-2) picked up the win in one inning on the mound while Josiah Castro picked up the save in 1.1 innings. 

 Mason Martinez (7-2) took the loss for Grambling in six innings, as he gave up seven earned runs. 

Game 2: GSU 16, TSU 8

The difference was an 11-run third inning for Grambling State on eight hits as Texas Southern could not recover from the deficit, playing just to seven innings due to the 10-run rule. 

Jesse Herrera went 3-for-4 at the plate with one run, while Jones with 2-for-4 with four RBIs and one run scored. 

Dalton Alford (2-6) took the loss TSU in 2.1 innings, as he was tagged four seven runs while striking out four.  Phillip Bryant (4-2) picked up the win for GSU in six innings, but only striking out one batter. 

Game 3: GSU 7, TSU 6 

Grambling State got a 5-0 start ending the third inning. Texas Southern picked up one run at the top of the fourth as Nin Burns, ll walked then advanced to second on a wild pitch. He moved up again on a sacrifice fly by Victor Molina then scored on a wild pitch. 

Texas Southern was able to pick up four runs on four hits at the top of the seventh as Jones doubled to pick up two RBIs in the frame. Grambling picking up one run at the bottom of the inning to 6-5.

The game was tied at six runs after Chase Cromer hit a 2-out homer to left field. GSU picked up a run at the bottom of the ninth as the bases were loaded and Jose Vargas walked. 

Isaac Garcia (1-1) took the loss for Texas Southern in 0.2 innings, while walking three batters. Mason Martinez (8-2) picked up the win for Grambling in one inning with zeros across the board. 

Texas Southern is back in action at MacGregor Park against Prairie View kn three-game series on Friday (3 p.m.), Saturday (2 p.m.), and Sunday (1 p.m.).
