Baseball Sweeps Alcorn In Last Two Games Of Three Game Series

The Texas Southern University baseball team concluded the last two games of a three-game series against Alcorn State going 2-0 inside Willie McGowan Stadium on Friday evening.

The Tigers went 2-1 overall as they fell 8-6 in game one on Friday afternoon.

Game 2: TSU 14, ALCORN 5
Alcorn State led 4-1 after the sixth inning, but the Tigers plated 12 runs on just five hits at the top of the seventh inning, which would put the game away for good.  Edmundo Alanis highlighted the inning with a two run homer, making that his first of the season. He also led the Tigers going 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs and four RBIs.

Dalton Alford started on the mound, pitching six innings, striking out eight batters while walking just two. He was tagged for four runs. Justin Barnes pitched the relief and picked up the win in 1.2 innings, striking out two and walking one as he didn’t give up any runs.

Kewan Brazil took the loss for the Braves in 6.2 innings as he fanned five, walked five, and gave up six runs.

Game 3: TSU 19, Alcorn 1
A 19-1 score was the second largest margin of victory that the Texas Southern University baseball has scored against Alcorn State since the 2015 season. The first was in an 18-4 victory in March of 2022 in Lorman, Mississippi.

The Braves lone run was scored at the bottom of the first as Ben Martin doubled, then advanced a base after a Tiger error, then scored on a wild pitch.

Texas Southern plated 11 runs on six hits and took advantage of two errors to take an intimidating lead at the top of the sixth. The damage was already done by the seventh inning as TSU extended its lead with two more runs as the Braves could not recover at the bottom of the frame.

Nin Burns went 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs and two runs. Jose Castro picked up the win for the Tigers in 4.1 innings pitched while striking out two batters with no walks.
