Castillo Strikes Out Five, Williams Homers In 9-4 Win Against Southern

Adolf Castillo struck out five batters and Tyler Williams homered as the Texas Southern University baseball team extended its winning streak to 10 games after a 9-4 win against Southern University on Sunday evening at MacGregor Park.

What looked to be the beginning of a long game, turned out the complete opposite when Southern picked up four runs on two hits in the first inning. The Tigers responded with four runs on three hits of their own at the top of the second inning, while taking advantage of two Jaguars errors.

Tyler Williams led off the top of the third inning with a homer to right field which was his second against Southern and his third of the season. The Tigers led 6-4 at the bottom of the frame.

Jason Lazo went 2-for-3 at the plate with one run. Non Burns, ll went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Shannon Martin and Victor Molina had two RBIs a piece. Castillo (7-4) picked up the win for Texas Southern in 5.2 innings, striking out five and walking three. He didn’t give up any runs. Semien Joseph (5-4) took the loss in 5.2 innings on the mound, giving up seven runs, while walking five and striking out four.

Texas Southern will take on Lamar on Wednesday at in Beaumont, Texas at 6 p.m.
