Men’s Track Places 2nd At SWAC, Williams Named Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Texas Southern men’s track & field team placed second at the 2023 SWAC Outdoor Championships at Prairie View A&M University.
 
Chaunzavia Lewis ran 10.4 in the 100 to place fourth while Brandon Washington finished fifth in the 800 after a run of 1:53.45. Jose Gonzalez claimed the 1,500-meter title after a run of 3:56.90 while placing second in the 5,000 (15:35.76). Albert Norman also claimed points in the same event as he recorded a fourth-place finish (15:47.45).
 
Joshua Goslee placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 14-7.25 along with Ian Charles’ mark of 13-7.25 en route to a fourth-place finish. Chad Williams finished sixth with a mark of 12-11.5 feet. Williams, who was named Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer, also finished second overall in the triple jump as he jumped 50 feet.
 
Turey Stoudemire finished second overall in the high jump as he narrowly missed the title after a jump off. Stoudemire tied for the day’s highest jump at 7-0.25 feet but needed two attempts while the champion cleared it in one attempt.
 
TSU’s mile relay placed seventh after a time of 3:14.68.
 
Several athletes may have an opportunity to compete in the 2023 NCAA Regional in late May but will have to await the final rankings in the next few weeks.
