Soccer On The Road At Alabama State

The Texas Southern soccer team will travel to Montgomery, Alabama to face Alabama State on Friday for Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play. Kickoff from the ASU Soccer Complex is set for 6 p.m. 

Texas Southern (4-11-1 Overall, 3-2-1 SWAC) defeated Jackson State 2-1 on Sunday, ultimately tarnishing JSU’s undefeated SWAC record. In the match, the Tigers took 12 shots with six being on goal. Jaidyn Christophe and Alessandra Bastidas split time in the back of the net and registered two saves each. The two goals were scored by Liliane Clase Baez (first of the season), and Hajar Benjoud (seventh of the season). 

Scouting Report 
Alabama State (2-10-2, 1-4-1) picked up it’s first conference win (4-3) on Sunday against Mississippi Valley, which was also ASU’s head coach Jodie Smith’s 200th career victory. Valley would score three goals in a row before the Lady Hornets would respond with its own four-in-a-row scored by Iliana Casiano, Kassandra Schoen, Camila Jimenez, and Grace Norbury. The offense was led by Jimenez who played just 27 minutes as she took 3 shots with two being on goal. 

The Lady Hornets tallied eight shots with six being on goal, while goalkeeper Lauryn Starwood played a full game, tallying nine saves.
