Women’s Golf in 3rd After Day 1 of Hornet Puerto Rico Invitational

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – Texas Southern women’s golf team is in third place following the opening round of the inaugural Hornet Invitational hosted by Alabama State University. Surrounded by aqua blue waters and the tall palm trees, the Tigers tackled 18 mile per hour gusts of wind got the duration of the round.

Senior Ashlie Hobbs leads the way for the Tigers as she is tied in 2nd place with her 6-over-par 78. Junior Alexa Gonzalez is one stroke back with her 7-over-par 79 and is currently tied in 4th place. Senior Lyla Vaughn is currently tied for 12th place.

The Hornet Invitational is hosted at Grand Reserve Golf Club and the tournament format includes 54 holes over three days. The second round begins Wednesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
