Perla Hits First Homer in Tough Loss To Northwestern State

Marisa Perla hit her first homer of the season as the Texas Southern softball team lost a heart-breaker to Northwestern State, 2-1 inside the Demon Diamond on Tuesday evening.

The lone run from Texas Southern (6-8) came at the top of the fourth inning as Perla homered to center field.

Northwestern State (13-18) tied the game at the bottom of the third as Sophia Livers was hit by a pitch and advanced two bases on a sac-bunt and a passed ball. Bailie Ragsdale grounded out as Livers scored unearned. The Demons put the game away at the bottom of the seventh, plating one run on two hits.

Lailah Bell pitched five innings for the Tigers as she gave up one run on four hits. Maren Berger picked up the loss in 1.2 innings as she gave up one run on four hits as well. Kenzie Seely pitched a full game for the Demons as she struck out eight and walked three. She gave up one run on three hits.

Texas Southern will take on Grambling State in a three game series beginning Friday, March 22 at 3 p.m., followed by Saturday (12 p.m. and 2 p.m.) at Memorial Park.
