Women’s Golf Earns 3 Wins At Tarleton State Classic Match Play

STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS – Texas Southern Women’s Golf had an adventurous day on the course winning half of their matches in the Tarleton State Classic Match Play hosted by Tarleton State on Monday. 
 

The event was a match play format over two rounds. There were four teams in attendance which included Stephen F. Austin, Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern, and Tarleton State. The four teams were separated into two teams competing against each other where TSU took on Tarleton State in the morning and Prairie View A&M in the afternoon. 
 

The morning matches resulted in a 5-0 defeat for the Tigers with the closest sets being between Rebeca Fernandez and TSU’s Lyla Vaughn as Fernandez won 1 up while Elle Fox defeated Phaith Harris 3 up with 2 to go. 
 

The afternoon matches resulted in a 3-2 win for Texas Southern over Prairie View A&M. 

Freshman Phaith Harris had the largest win margin defeating Kyra Peacock 7 up and 6 to go. Seniors Lyla Vaughn beat Briann Briggs 3 up and 2 to go. Fellow senior Ashlie Howard-Hobbs won her match against Kacey Menyoli 2 Up and 2 to go. 

The Tarleton State Classic Match Play concludes the team’s fall season. The Tigers return to play in the spring of 2024, teeing up with Prairie View A&M Dual in Houston, Texas in February of 2024.
