Soccer Begins Road Swing At Southern

After a two-week break, the Texas Southern University soccer team is back in action against Southern University on Friday inside A.W. Mumford Stadium. The match will begin at 7 p.m.

Texas Southern (3-11 Overall, 2-2 SWAC) had back-to-back conference wins as they won 4-2 against Alcorn State on Sept. 29 and had a 5-0 shutout win against Mississippi Valley on Oct. 1. Against Valley, three Tigers scored goals, including Isabella Dillow (2), Ibukun Lawson (2) and Victoria Pucci (1). Dillow was tabbed the SWAC Offensive Player of the Week for her overall performance. TSU Goalkeepers’ Jaidyn Christophe and Alessandra Bastidas split time in the back of the net while tallying three saves each.

Scouting Report
Southern University (5-4-2, 3-0-1) comes into the competition after a 1-1 tie at Alabama State. The lone goal was scored by Deja Griffin, which was her first of the season. In the match, SU took 20 shots with nine being on goal, while Goalkeeper Sydney Bellamy tallied one save.

Bellamy logged some serious minutes this season as she played all but 18 minutes. In the 11 games played, she registered 62 saves and now sits at No. 1 in the conference in shutouts per game as she shutout Nicholls State, Mississippi Valley, and Alcorn 1-0.

Southern is led offensively by Kyra Reeves who ranks No. 2 in the conference in shots having 30 in 11 games played, and two goals to accompany them. Hajar Benjoud of TSU sits in the top spot with 51 shots taken in 14 games played.

UP NEXT
Texas Southern will travel to Jackson, Miss. on Sunday to take on Jackson State. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. at the JSU Soccer Field.
