Volleyball Falls To Islanders Saturday Afternoon

The Texas Southern volleyball team dropped its second match of a two game weekend series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday afternoon at the H&PE Arena.

In the first set, the Islanders got off to a 5-0 start before TSU scored its first two points. That’s as close as the game would get as the Islanders won the set 25-12.

TSU showed a gallant effort in the second set as the score was tied 5-5. A&M-CC inched its way to a lead by scoring the next three points as they were on top 8-5. The Islanders then went on a 6-2 run to grab the largest margin of the game 14-7. The closes the set would get down the stretch was 17-13 before the Islanders won 25-17.

The contest in set three was neck-and-neck as it started out tied at seven, then tied again down the stretch at 20. However, TSU could not close out as they would only put up one more point.

Gracie Hill and Kennedy Reed led the Tigers with eight kills each. Dallas Balanay-Flores posted a match-high 20 assists, while Ryan Henderson registered nine digs.

Tori Arrington and Kyndal Payne paced A&M-CC with nine kills each. Belle Morgan chipped in 10 assists and Kayla White added in nine digs.

The Tigers will return to action at home on Tuesday to take on Northwestern State. The match will begin at 6 p.m.
