Softball Has Tough Weekend On The Road In Prairie View

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Texas Southern softball closed out a tough series at Prairie View A&M as they dropped a pair of one-run games on Saturday.

PVAMU 2, TSU 1
Prairie View A&M scored in the fourth and fifth frames to claim a 2-1 win in the opener.

With two outs in the first, Karisma Garcia drew a walk and scored on a PVAMU error during Angel Morales’ at-bat for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, the Panthers led the inning off with a single but TSU picked up two consecutive outs. However, the Panthers tied it at 1-all on a 2-2 count as the ball dropped right between the second baseman and center fielder.

The Panthers added another run in the fifth with two outs on a fielding error during an attempted steal to lead 2-1. Morales would double with two outs in the sixth to represent TSU’s last true scoring attempt but was stranded to end the inning.

Both teams only had four hits each as Morales led TSU with a hit and RBI. Maren Berger took a tough loss on the mound as she struck out three in a complete game performance.

PVAMU 1, TSU 0
Prairie View A&M scored once in the first and held on to claim a 1-0 win in the second game.

TSU loaded the bases in the first with one out but came up short as back-to-back popouts ended the inning. PVAMU recorded an RBI single with two outs in the bottom frame to claim a 1-0 lead.

What made Saturday’s weekend frustrating was the fact that TSU had several chances to score but left 14 runners on base. TSU had runners reach third base from the fourth through seventh innings but couldn’t capitalize with the final at-bat ending in a bases loaded groundout.

Pam Richardson finished 2-for-4 while Morales drew two walks with a hit. Madalynn Gonzales struck out three as she was tagged with the loss in a complete game effort.

TSU is back at home next Friday for a three-game series against Alcorn State at Memorial Park.
