Softball Falls In Doubleheader At Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Texas Southern softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games at Tarleton State on Tuesday.
 
TARLETON STATE 8, TSU 0
Tarleton State broke open a scoreless game with six runs between the third and fourth innings route to an 8-0 win in game one.
 
TSU had two runners on in the top of the third but couldn’t capitalize with an inning-ending fielder’s choice. Tarleton State loaded the bases with two outs in the third and scored four runs after a pair of hits to left center. They tacked on two more in the fourth and sixth frames to close out the game.
 
Saniah Henderson went 2-for-3 for TSU while Melonie Guardiola was tagged with the loss on the mound.
 
TARLETON STATE 11, TSU 0
Tarleton State combined to score 11 runs in the first and second innings as they closed out the series with an 11-0 win.
 
A grand slam by the Texans in the first inning gave them a 4-0 lead. They followed the inning up with a seven-run second to lead 11-0 as they never looked back. TSU started off with two runners on in the fourth with only one out but couldn’t bring them home as the inning ended with consecutive strikeouts.
 
Alyssa Pena recorded a hit for TSU as Kaelani Randle fell to 0-2 on the year on the mound.
 
TSU is back in action on Friday at Arkansas-Pine Bluff as they’ll play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. The doubleheader will be played due to both teams needing to make up a three-game series which was postponed in mid-March due to weather.
