Smith Places 3rd In Javelin, Perkins Achieves Another Career-Best Mark In Discus During Finale Of SWAC Championships

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Jalecia Smith finished third in the javelin as TSU women’s track & field wrapped up the 2021 SWAC Championships on the Prairie View A&M campus.

Due to a quarantine late last week, TSU had limited availability for its women’s track roster entering the SWAC Championships. Despite the lack of availability, several participants still had strong showings.

Smith, who owns the second-best javelin throw in the SWAC, recorded her third-place mark on her final attempt as she totaled 125-3 feet.

Phylan Perkins, who placed second in the hammer on Thursday, finished fifth in the discus with a personal-best mark of 142-3. T’Nia Sample placed seventh in the triple jump as she logged a mark of 38-10.25 on her second attempt.
