Late Rally Falls Short Against Prairie View A&M

Daryn Haslam’s team-leading second homerun of the season brought the Texas Southern University softball team to within 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh against the Prairie View A&M University Panthers, but the Tigers could not get any additional offense before succumbing by that same score at Memorial Park.

TSU (2-17, 0-6 SWAC) got a great pitching performance out of Melonie Guardiola (0-3) in the circle as she gave up just four runs with three being of the earned variety on four hits with five strikeouts and four walks.

Two of the four hits from PVAMU (7-15, 6-0 SWAC) ended up being two-RBI hits with one being a home run in the fifth and the other a single in the seventh.

With the Tigers trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Madison Battle got her team to within 2-1 when her RBI single scored Marissa Martinez from second. Martinez had been pinch running at second for Haslam who earlier reached on a fielder’s choice.

PVAMU answered with two in the top of the seventh before Haslam responded with her two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh.

The Tigers were originally scheduled to play Lamar University, but the game was postponed in order to complete a SWAC series.
