Baseball Drops Midweek Decision At Lamar

BEAUMONT, Texas – CJ Castillo and Gabriel Vasquez collected one-out RBI singles in the top of the ninth, but the Texas Southern University baseball team couldn’t muster any additional offense throughout the game and fell at Lamar University by a 9-2 final tally.

TSU (16-8) would see Benjamyn Hovda score for the Tigers off Castillo’s single to the shortstop and Chase Cromer scamper across the plate off a single to right from Vazquez.

Lamar (14-6) jumped ahead early with a pair of runs in the first and third innings each as well as another in the fourth to chase starting pitcher Dade Hensley from the contest.

Hensley would toss 3.2 innings giving up five runs with just two being earned on five hits along with a pair of walks and a strikeout.

With Hensley giving up just two earned runs, the Tigers’ defensive effort haunted them as four different fielders combined for the six uncharacteristic errors on the game.

With the Lamar coaching staff intending to throw a lot of arms throughout the game, the Cardinals’ starter Brooks Caple was declared the winner after tossing just three innings giving up one hit and striking out another.
