Women’s Track & Field Wilson Earns Berth To NCAA West Prelims

Texas Southern freshman triple jumper Alexis Wilson added another honor as she earned a berth to the 2023 NCAA West preliminary competition in Sacramento, Calif.

Wilson, a native of Pearland, Texas, becomes the first TSU women’s track & field student-athlete to earn a NCAA postseason berth since 2018. She earned her way to the preliminary round after a personal-best and first place mark of 12.63 meters (41-5.25 feet) during the SWAC Championship. The top triple jumper in the SWAC, Wilson improved each month in the event before her breakout performance at the SWAC Championship.

At stake is a berth to the NCAA National Championships in Austin, Texas which runs June 7-10. To qualify, both athletes will need to finish in the top 12 of their respective events.

The 2023 preliminary meet will take place in Sacramento, Calif. on the campus of Sacramento State University. Wilson will jump on Saturday, May 27 at 6 p.m. The event will be streamed live on ESPN+.
