Women’s Golf Leads After 1st Round Of SWAC Championship

FLOWOOD, Miss. – The Texas Southern University women’s golf team is in first place following the opening round of the 2024 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Golf Championship on Monday. The Tigers are ahead of the field by nine shots.

Senior Ashlie Hobbs is tied for second place individually with Bethune-Cookman’s Jenna Werle after posting a 4-over-par 76. Hobbs’ round included 15 pars, two drops, and a double to have her lead the way for the Tigers. Freshman Shawnise Gregory and Junior Alexa Gonzalez each carded a five-over-par 77 and are tied in 4th place while senior Lyla Vaughn and junior Miness Siame are tied in 10th place following their nine-over-par round 81s.

The competing teams play at the Refuge Golf Club, a 6,115-yard par-72 championship course. The Tigers tee up for the second round of the SWAC Championships Tuesday morning with an 8:00 am start.
