Women’s Basketball Drops Match At Houston

Jaida Belton registered a season and game-high 11 rebounds as the Texas Southern University women’s basketball team fell 89-42 against the University of Houston on Tuesday afternoon inside the Fertitta Center.

The Tigers were quiet for the first three minutes as Houston went on a 7-0 run before Taniya Lawson would get a layup. The Cougars had another big run (10-0) capped by a free-throw by Logan McNeil to take a 17-2 lead.

Lawson was able to get to the charity stripe after a foul on Kamyrn Jones as she was 2-for-2. Texas Southern went 4-for-5 from the free-throw line in the period.

The Cougars had a 21-10 advantage heading into the second quarter and never looked back as the Tigers dropped its fifth straight match.

Taniya Lawson paced the Tigers offensively with 12 points.

Maliyah Johnson led the way for Houston with a game-high 16 points and seven rebounds.

The Tigers are back in action on Friday, Dec. 15 at Tulsa with a 6:30 p.m. kick-off.
