Women’s Basketball Begins Road Slate At FAMU

•The Texas Southern women’s basketball team will look to lead the all-time series against Florida A&M University as they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.

•Texas Southern (4-16 Overall, 3-6 SWAC) fell to Prairie View A&M, 78-65, on Saturday night inside the William Nicks building

•The Tigers were paced offensively by Daeja Holmes who registered 17 points. Jaida Belton followed with 14 points, nine boards, three steals, and two blocks.

•Florida A&M (5-15, 4-5) is coming off of a 49-40 road victory against Alabama State on Monday as Ahriahna Grizzle and Olivia Delancy combined to score 42 total points.

•The Tigers and the Rattlers are tied at one win each as FAMU won the last match on Feb. 3, 2023 by a score of 66-55.

The Rattlers were predicted to finish tenth in the SWAC Preseason Poll.

•FAMU is led by Grizzle who is the leading scorer in the SWAC as she is averaging 18.8 points per game. Additionally, she ranks third in the conference in steals, averaging 2.3 per game.

•The Tigers are led offensively by Taniyah Lawson as she averages 11.5 points and 3.0 boards.

•Belton is the second leading blocker in the SWAC having 35 in 20 games played.

•The Tigers will have a lot to prove as they were selected to finish 11th in the Preseason SWAC Predicted Order of Finish.

• The Tigers brought in nine newcomers this year. However, they’ve lost nine letterwinners and feature a pair of new assistant coaches.
