Volleyball Drops Pair On First Day of Dr. Pam Littleton Classic

The Texas Southern volleyball team concluded the first two games of the Dr. Pam Littleton Classic with losses to the University of California Riverside and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday. 

Texas Southern (0-13) fell to UCR 3-0 and UMES 3-1. 

How it Happen: 

UCR 3, TSU 0
UCR raced out to a 3-0 start before the Tigers caught up and tied the first set at 3-3, then 4-4. UCR would go on a 12-0 run that was finally stopped by an attack error, as they led 16-5. TSU would get three more points that were capped by two kills from Gracie Hill. Down the stretch, Texas Southern could not recover from the deficit as they fell 25-14.

In the second set, UCR would get off to a 12-7 start before scoring five points in a row from a mix of attack errors and kills. The Highlanders would score its needed eight points before the Tigers could recover. 

Set three was a closer game as Texas Southern was up as much as 19-16. The two teams would exchange points before UCR would get three more points to tie the game at 20. The set was tied again at 21, but a kill by UC Riverside’s Anya Green and an attack error on Texas Southern would force the TSU to call a time out as they trailed 23-21. The two teams would exchange points again but the Highlanders would get the final point off of a Tigers’ attack error. 

UMES 3, TSU 0
The first set was as close as a three-point deficit for the Tigers as they trailed 14-11 after Kennedy Reed, Ava Ray and Hill registered three kills back-to-back. UMES would outscore TSU 8-5 to take its largest lead of the set 22-16. Texas Southern could not recover as they dropped the set 25-21.

TSU made a convincing comeback in the second set, winning 25-16 and tallying 11 kills. 

Texas Southern trailed the entire third set, but the game was as close as 11-8. Texas Southern dropped the set 25-17. 

The fourth set was tied at 24, but two TSU attack errors proved costly as Texas Southern fell 26-24.

UP NEXT
Texas Southern will conclude the Dr. Pam Littleton Classic against Tarleton State on Saturday. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
