Turner’s Second Straight Double Double Leads TSU To Victory Over BCU

The Texas Southern women’s basketball team was able to find its way to the charity stripe in the dwindling seconds to pull off a 65-64 road win over Bethune Cookman on Monday evening inside the Moore Gymnasium.

For the second game in a row, Jordyn Turner paced the Tigers (5-17 Overall, 4-7 SWAC) with a double double as she tallied 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from both the field and the charity stripe. Additionally, she added 11 boards. Nya Harmon followed up with 15 points.

Kayla White led the Wildcats (14-10, 5-6) with 18 points and eight rebounds, while D’Shantae Edwards added 13 points.

How it Happened
•It was a low scoring period in the first quarter, but Bethune Cookman managed to take a slight 12-9 lead going into the second.

•The second quarter was tied at 18 each after a jumper by Harmon with 2:40 remaining, however there would be six lead changes total as BCU managed a two-point lead going into the half (24-22).

•The Wildcats led by as many as 10 points (43-33) with 2:09 remaining in the third after a jumper by Chariot Johnson before closing out with a seven point lead.

•After a tie at 63 with nine seconds remaining in regulation, Edwards got to the charity stripe to shoot a free throw.

•TSU called a timeout and later, Belton was fouled as she made her way to the charirty stripe to shoot a pair for the win.
