Tigers Rebound With Big Win Over Mississippi Valley State

Even though it was cold outside, the TSU men’s basketball team was hot on the inside as they nailed 13 three-pointers en route to a 93-61 win over Mississippi Valley State on Monday afternoon.

The teams were tied at 10 with 14:33 remaining in the first half but in a stark contrast to Saturday’s game, the Tigers benefited from the three-point line from that point. TSU broke open the deadlocked contest with a 36-19 run over the final 14:33 as they were 6-of-9 from the three-point line. During the run, Jonathan Cisse scored 12 of his 13 first half points as the
Tigers closed out the half shooting 54.5 percent from the field. TSU also received solid inside play from the post duo of Grayson Carter and Kenny Hunter as both combined for 22 points and seven rebounds as TSU claimed a 46-29 halftime lead.

TSU broke the contest open in the first four minutes of the second half with solid offense and defense as they went 3-of-4 from the three-point line. Carter and Cisse combined for 11 points to spark a 15-4 run for a 61-33 lead entering the first media time out. The Tigers led by as much as 33 at the 7:12 mark as they cruised to the win and their 20th win over MVSU in the past 22 games.

Cisse led TSU with 21 points and five rebounds while Carter added19 points with eight rebounds. Kenny Hunter scored 16 points with six rebounds and four blocks while Zytarious
Mortle added 11.

TSU is back in action on Saturday at Alcorn State for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
