Tigers Fall At UVA Thursday Night

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia claimed a defensive battle over Texas Southern as they won 62-33 on Thursday night at John Paul Jones Arena.
 
UVA led 9-7 within the first eight minutes of the game but went on an 8-0 run over the next two minutes for a 17-7 lead. Kehlin Farooq’s three-pointer with 8:39 left cut the deficit to 17-10 but UVA answered with a trey to up the lead back to double figures. However, TSU would miss its next 11 shots as UVA would claim a 26-14 halftime lead.
 
Three consecutive baskets early in the second stanza saw the Tigers get within 11 (35-24) but shots were hard to come by on Thursday night after the brief surge as the team would only record four field goals over the final 16:48.
 
Jahmar Young, Jr. and PJ Henry led TSU with seven points while Young, Jr. and Kenny Hunter finished with five and four rebounds, respectively.
 
TSU is back in action at Creighton on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
