Tigers Drop Midweek Contest At Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – A nine-run third inning by Texas created a hill too high to overcome as TSU baseball fell 18-3 Tuesday night.

UT drew a leadoff walk and a hit by pitch which led to its first run on RBI double. The Longhorns hit a sac fly for their second run of the contest as they led 2-0 after the first. UT added another RBI double to move ahead 3-0 in the third along with another sac fly for its fourth run of the game. Another RBI to left upped TSU’s deficit to 5-0 after the second.

TSU had its moments in the third as Shannon Martin drew  one out walk but was thrown out at second on a steal attempt. CJ Castillo walked, moved to second on a wild pitch before moving to third on Daalen Adderley’s single. However, the inning came to a close as Castillo was caught stealing at home.

UT opened the third with a walk followed by a two-run homer. They would tack on seven more runs to put the game away.

TSU scored in the fifth as Gabe Vasquez doubled, Roderick Coffee singled en route to a wild pitch which scored Vasquez. Ronald Brown singled but TSU recorded consecutive outs to end the inning. TSU would add runs in the sixth and seventh as Vasquez hit a sac fly followed by Benjamyn Hovda’s RBI.
