Tigers Defeated In Extra Innings On Sunday

BATON ROUGE, La. – TSU dropped the finale against Southern in extra innings by a 10-9 margin on Sunday.

TSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead entering the bottom of the fourth led by two RBI from Roderick Coffee. SU closed the gap to 4-3 after the fifth but Gabe Vasquez’s grand slam in the sixth moved TSU up 8-3.

SU answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth but TSU answered with a run in the seventh on Coffee’s RBI for a 9-6 lead. However, SU tied it in the eighth as both teams had missed opportunities in the ninth.

Jeremy Gaines opened the 10th with a double and moved to third on a fly out but was thrown out at home on a fielder’s choice. SU drew a one out walk in the bottom half and the pinch runner moved to third after a stolen base and throwing error. The Tigers made up for the error as they threw the runner out at home but issued back-to-back walks with allowed SU to score the winning run.

Vasquez finished 4-for-6 with five RBI while Tyrese Clayborne went 3-for-5 with two runs. Johnathon Thomas also had two hits and a run scored followed by three RBI from Coffee. Brian Williams led TSU with six strikeouts as four Tigers saw time on the mound.

TSU is back in action at Lamar on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
