Tigers Battle Back For First Win At Alcorn State Since 2019
TSU claimed an early 15-5 nearly eight minutes in as Carter and Jonathan Cisse combined to score 10 of the first 15 points. The Tigers would cool off from that point as ASU went on a 10-0 to knot it up at 15-all but they began to heat up over the next five minutes as six Tigers scored during a 15-9 surge which saw them lead 30-24 after Zytarious Mortle’s jumper with 3:12 remaining. TSU would manage to hold ASU off from that point as the half saw them ahead 34-30.
Alcorn State reversed roles to start the second half as they erupted for a 19-4 run to claim a 49-38 lead with 12:40 left. However, the Tigers refused to go down quietly and turned to Jaylen Wysinger for a dose of medicine as the junior scored eight of the team’s 19 points to spark a 19-6 run which moved TSU back ahead 57-55 with 6:51 left. Defensively, the Tigers held the Braves to only one field goal during that span.
ASU would answer with a layup to tie it up at 57-all but a Kolby Granger free throw on the ensuing drive moved the lead back to TSU at 58-57. Once ahead, TSU would take control on both ends of the floor and continued its surge as Kehlin Farooq scored six points to help TSU close out the game on a 14-4 run.
Carter led TSU with 17 points and four rebounds while Wysinger had 14 points followed by 13 from Henry. Henry also had five assists along with two blocks from Jahmar Young, Jr.
TSU is back in action Monday night live on ESPNU against Jackson State at 8 p.m.
