Soccer Plays Host To Mississippi Valley On Senior Day

The Texas Southern soccer team will play host to Mississippi Valley on Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day inside Alexander Durley Stadium. The lone senior Victoria Pucci will be celebrated in a pre-match ceremony.

Pucci: Senior Forward Pucci joined the soccer program in 2022 as a junior from Northern Arizona.  During her tenure at Texas Southern, she played in 23 games with over 1500 minutes of playing time. She helped the team earn a spot in the semifinals in the 2022 SWAC Tournament while being named to the All-SWAC Second Team in recognition of her skills throughout the season. This season, she was named to the 2023 Preseason All-SWAC Second Team.

About Texas Southern
The Tigers (2-11, 1-2) are coming into the competition after beating Alcorn State 4-2 in SWAC play inside Alexander Durley Stadium on Friday evening. Texas Southern dominated in all phases outshooting the Lady Braves 18-8 while finishing with a 9-5 edge in shots on goal. Four different Tigers scored as Hajar Benjoud, Isabella Dillow, Kennedy Tristan, and  Liliane Clase Baez would find the back of the net. TSU Goalkeeper Alessandra Bastidas played the second half while registering three saves.

Scouting Report
Mississippi Valley (2-6, 1-2) comes into the competition with a 1-0 SWAC win against Prairie View. The lone goal was scored by Raheal Aka-Ety, which was her first of the season. MVSU took 11 shots with nine being on goal. Goalkeeper Sydney Whittington played all 90 minutes in the net while registering six saves. The Delta Devils additionally loss in SWAC play against Jackson State and Southern University, both scores, 1-0.

Up Next
Texas Southern will have a long break before hitting the road on Oct. 13 to take on Southern University at Jaguar Park. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
