GAME NOTES:

Lady Tigers lead the SWAC in 3’s
The Lady Tigers lead the SWAC in 3-point shooting, having made 33.8 percent (81 of 240) of their long-range attempts. A TSU game promises lots of 3’s, as the Lady Tigers also give up the highest percentage of 3-pointers to their opponents (79 of 234, 33.8 percent).

They can hit from inside the arc, too
Overall, the Lady Tigers are shooting 40.2 percent (309 of 769) from the field, which ranks second in the SWAC only to Jackson State. TSU players shoot 42.6 percent from inside the 3-point arc.

Velez stepping up
Since her 18-point outburst against Huston-Tillotson on Dec. 20, junior guard Richelle Velez has averaged 10.6 points per game and reached double-figures in four out of five contests. She averages 10.7 points per game in SWAC play while shooting 38.1 percent (8 of 21) from 3-point range against conference foes.

Turner for 3!
Marquia Turner leads the SWAC in 3-point percentage, having made 43.4 percent (36 of 83) of her long range shots this season. She ranks sixth in the league in scoring with 12.6 points per game.

Inside-out
While Marquia Turner is the SWAC’s best 3-point shooter, Niya Mitchell ranks second in the conference in overall field-goal percentage, shooting 54.2 percent (71 of 131) from the floor.

TSU vs. Grambling
The Lady Tigers have won 13 of their last 16 games against Grambling State dating back to the 2012-13 season. TSU swept the regular-season series from Grambling in 2018, but the other Lady Tigers got their revenge in the postseason, when GSU defeated Texas Southern 66-59 in the SWAC Tournament semifinals en route to winning the conference championship.
