Gray Named SWAC Freshman Of The Year, Earns 2nd Team Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – TSU women’s basketball freshman guard Micah Gray was named the 2022-23 SWAC Freshman of the Year in addition to earning All-SWAC Second Team Honors.
 
A native of Oklahoma City, Okla., Gray made an instant impact at TSU as she became the first freshman to win the honor at TSU since 2013.
 
She was the SWAC’s third-leading scorer (16.7 ppg) as only two-tenths of a percentage points separated her from the top spot. She ranked seventh in the SWAC in field goal percentage (.342) and fifth in free throw percentage (.795). She ranked fourth in three-point field goals per game (1.9) while 13th in minutes played (30.9 mpg).
 
Gray has seven of the SWAC’s top 25 scoring performance this year, including the top two this season with a high of 41 at UAPB and 33 at UCF. She also scored 30 against Grambling State while also having the most field goals scored in the SWAC in a single game (15 at UAPB). Gray made a SWAC-best seven three-pointers at UAPB and had 10 games with 20-plus points including two games with 30 points. Gray was also named SWAC Player of the Week twice and SWAC Impact Player of the Week once.
