Castillo Named To Preseason All-SWAC First Team

Texas Southern baseball’s CJ Castillo was named to the 2024 Preseason Baseball All-SWAC First Team on Thursday. The team is voted on by the league’s 12 head coaches and sports information directors.
 
A senior shortstop from Houston, Castillo is TSU’s top returning player as he finished the 2023 season with a .355 average, 72 hits, 13 doubles and 42 RBI. He also scored 56 runs, had 103 total bases and drew 24 walks. Castillo also participated in the inaugural HBCU Swingman Classic in Seattle, Wash. last year where he had an opportunity to rub elbows with Major League baseball greats.
 
As a team, TSU was picked to finish fourth in the SWAC West.
 
Castillo and TSU open the 2024 season at home next Friday afternoon against Jackson State in the second annual Cactus Jack HBCU Classic inside Houston’s Minute Maid Park at 3 p.m.
