Brown’s Walk-Off Caps Off Wild Day As TSU Wins Series Over Prairie View A&M

In classic TSU-Prairie View A&M fashion, Ron Brown’s two-run walkoff homer in the ninth gave TSU an 11-10 win on a day which saw them hit seven home runs.

Prairie View A&M claimed an early 2-0 lead after the top of the second but TSU cut the deficit in half after Benjamyn Hovda’s solo homer. TSU tied it in the third on Daalen Adderley’s RBI double and moved ahead 3-2 after Alexander Olivo’s RBI single.

With two outs in the fourth, PVAMU moved ahead 5-3 after a three-run homer and upped their margin to 6-3 in the fifth on a sac fly.

TSU went crazy in the fifth with the long ball as Jordan Vidato opened the inning with a double before scoring on CJ Castillo’s home run. Gabe Vasquez followed with a homer and Adderley capped off the heroics with a home run as TSU led 7-6. CJ Castillo’s second home run of the game in the sixth moved TSU ahead 8-6 but PVAMU cut it to 8-7 on an RBI single in the seventh.

With two outs in the eighth, PVAMU cut it to 9-8 after scoring on a wild pitch with the bases loaded. In the ninth, PVAMU’s Tyrone Norris reached on an error but reliever Cade Fontenot struck out the next two batters. TSU was on the verge of getting out the game with the win but a hit batter loaded the bases and tied it 9-9 which triggered a call to the bullpen. TSU opened the next sequence with a bases loaded walk which allowed PVAMU to move ahead 10-9 before an inning-ending strikeout.

Shannon Martin opened the bottom of the ninth with a leadoff double for TSU which set up Ron Brown’s walk-off to win the series.

CJ Castillo went 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs while Adderley was 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Adolf Castillo earned the win in relief while Mateo Lamas and Cade Fontenot both struck out four.

TSU is back in action at Grambling State on Thursday night at 6 p.m.
