Women’s Basketball Prepares For Competition At Rice

•The Texas Southern women’s basketball team will travel three miles down the road to take on Rice University on Wednesday at the Tudor Fieldhouse. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

•The last time these two teams faced each other was Nov. of 2022. Texas Southern dropped a 76-49 decision. The Owls also leads the all-time series 13-9 as Texas Southern’s last win was Dec. of 2019 (63-56).

•The Tigers are coming off a 73-58 loss to Stephen F. Austin as three Tigers scored in double figures including Jordyn Turner (15), Taniya Lawson (13), and Jaida Belton (10).

•The Owl’s last game was against SFA as well as they fell 67-56 last Saturday.

•Texas Southern has two players that has played in all four games, aver- aging double figures including Daeja Holmes (14.0) and Taniya Lawson (11.0).

•The Tigers will have a lot to prove as they were selected to finish 11th in the Preseason SWAC Predicted Order of Finish.

• Texas Southern returns four starters: Taniya Lawson, Jaida Belton, Alisa Knight, and Anela Thomas.

• The Tigers will see a lot of new faces this year as they’ve brought in nine newcomers. However, they’ve lost nine letterwinners and feature a pair of new assistant coaches.
