Women’s Basketball Opens 2023-24 Season Against New Mexico

•Texas Southern kicks off year two of the Vernette Skeete era with a trip to New Mexico Monday evening inside The Pit at 6 p.m.

•Texas Southern was selected to finish 11th in the Preseason SWAC Predicted Order of Finish.

•TSU head coach Vernette Skeete will look for her first win in the month of November as this marks her first meeting all-time against a team from the Mountain West.

•Texas Southern and New Mexico have only met three times in history with the first contest taking place on Nov. 28, 1997. TSU fell 85-32 in the first meeting, 78-39 in 1999 and 103-41 in 2003.

•Texas Southern returns four starters: Taniya Lawson, Jaida Belton, Alisa Knight, and Anela Thomas.

•The Tigers will see a lot of new faces this year as they’ve brought in nine newcomers. However, they’ve lost nine letterwinners and feature a pair of
new assistant coaches.

•The Texas Southern’s men’s team will face New Mexico coincidentally, following the women’s game.
