Texas Southern (7-21 Overall, 7-7 SWAC) had three tigers who led with double figure kills including Kennedy Reed who tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs. Gracie Hill added 11 kills and Kourtni Collier chipped in 10. Dallas Balanay-Flores and Ava Ray each posted 20 assists, while Britney Ong and Ryan Henderson dished out 16 and 15 digs to pace the Tiger defense.
Southern (8-14, 6-7) was paced by Jordan Felix who posted a triple double with 14 kills, 28 assists, and 13 digs.
How it Happen
Set 1l Texas Southern led 24-15 in set one. The Jaguars held set point for six points as TSU led 24-21, but the Tigers would close out the first set with a win as SU committed an attack error.
Set 2l Set two was a back and forth contest as the Tigers outscored the Jaguars 17-13 kills. Ava Ray notched a kill for the set point.
Set 3l Statistically, the difference was one more Tiger error (10-9). The set was as close as a 22 point tie as Southern closed the set out with three points in a row.
Set 4l TSU trailed 21-14, but then went on a 5-0 run capped by a service ace by Ong to cut the deficit 21-19. The teams took turns scoring two points at a time each until SU closed out with the final say-so.
Set 5l The final set was a nail biter as SU had to win by two. Two kills was the difference on the score sheet as Southern had 11 kills and Texas Southern had nine.
Texas Southern will travel to lorman, Miss. to take on Alcorn State on Monday.
