Women’s Basketball Begins Road Slate At Alcorn

•The Texas Southern women’s basketball team will take on Alcorn State on Saturday inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.

•Texas Southern (3-12 Overall, 2-2 SWAC) is coming off of a 70-69 loss to Mississippi Valley on Monday inside the H&PE Arena. Monday’s loss was head coach Vernette Skeete’s first loss to MVSU as she is now 2-1 against the Delta Devils.

•Daeja Holmes tallied the team’s first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 boards, while adding five steals. On the defensive side, Imani Morris tallied three blocks.

• Alcorn State (3-13, 1-2), who was predicted to finish ninth in the Southwestern Ath- letic Conference (SWAC) Preseason Poll got its first conference win on Saturday after- noon over Alabama State. The Lady Braves defeated the Hornets, 49-42 as Cordasia Harris posted a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds.

•Alcorn is led by the eighth leading scorer in the SWAC, Zy’nyia White who is averag- ing 11.9 points and 4.1 boards per game.

•TSU is 3-0 this season when scoring 70 or more points.

•Taniya Lawson is the tenth leading scorer in the SWAC as she averages 11.5 points per game for the Tigers.

•Jaida Belton is the second leading blocker in the SWAC having 28 in 15 games played.

•The Tigers will have a lot to prove as they were selected to finish 11th in the Presea- son SWAC Predicted Order of Finish.

• The Tigers brought in nine newcomers this year. However, they’ve lost nine letterwin- ners and feature a pair of new assistant coaches.
