Volleyball Wraps Up Play Against PVAMU On Senior Day

The Texas Southern volleyball team fell 3-0 to Prairie View on Sunday evening inside the H&PE Arena.

Sunday was also Senior Day as three seniors were honored in a pre-match ceremony including Britney Ong, Dallas Balanay-Flores, and Amber Johnson.

About Senior Day
Britney Ong is a native of Missouri City, Texas and has been a solid contributor for the Lady Tigers defense as she sits in the top five on the team for digs this season. In 2022, she also received the Tiger Spirit Award.

Dallas Balanay-Flores hails from Las Vegas, Nev. and holds the number one spot for team assists. This season, she surpassed 1,000 career assists and now has over 1100. She’s had a solid senior season as she’s also tied for first for team service aces and sits in the top five for blocks this season. She was also named to the 2023 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Amber Johnson has been with the program for four seasons and has contributed greatly to the team’s success. She currently holds the number two spot on the team for kills this season with 108 so far. She’s been on the dean’s list all of her collegiate career and was named to the 2023 Commissioner’s Honor Roll. She’s a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and a native of Pearland, Texas.

How it Happen
SET 1- Set one was tied at 12, then PVAMU would get six points in a row to take an 18-12 lead. The set was as close as three-point deficit, 19-16 as Johnson, and Kennedy Reed would get kills in that stretch.

SET 2- Set two was a closer battle as the Tigers would register 12 kills on 42 attempts to Prairie View’s 15 kills on 41 attempts. Both teams had five errors. Tied at 23, Texas Southern would lose the battle after a Lady Panther kill and Tiger error.

SET 3- Tied at seven, PVAMU went on a 14-3 run to take a 10-point, 21-11 lead. Texas Southern could only get three more points down the stretch as they fell 25-14.

Inside the Numbers
> Texas Southern finished with a .092 hitting percentage (27 kills, 15 errors, 131 attacks)
> Prairie View recorded a .233 hitting percentage (43 kills, 12 errors, 133 attacks)
> TSU registered 17 assists and 58 digs
> PVAMU tallied 36 assists and 66 digs

UP NEXT
Texas Southern will be on the road for the remaining of the season, starting  Sunday as they will take on Grambling State at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center. Tip-off is TBA.
