Turner Notches Career High Double-Double In Road Loss To FAMU
Jordyn Turner scored a career-high 25 points and 10 rebounds, but the Texas Southern University women’s basketball team fell 71-57 to Florida A&M on Saturday evening inside the Al Lawson Center.
Daeja Holmes came in hot for Texas Southern (4-17 Overall, 3-7 SWAC) as she drained two back-to-back threes to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead. TSU led 8-2 after a layup by Turner as the Tigers led 13-12 after the first period.
Texas Southern was outscored by Florida A&M (6-15, 5-5) 19-11 in the second quarter as they shot 7-of-15 from the field (46.47 percent) to Texas Southern’s 5-of-17 shooting from the field. The Rattlers would then take a 31-24 lead going into the break.
Turner scored 13 of her 25 points in the third quarter as the game was close as a three-point deficit, 38-35, with 5:48 remaining in the third after layup by Turner. The Tigers lost the quarter 21-16, as FAMU took a 52-40 lead going into the fourth.
A 12 point deficit with 9:29 remaining in the fourth was as close as the game would get as the Rattlers used a 17-15 run to obtain the win.
Ahriahna Grizzle paced the Rattles with a game-high 31 points and five steals. Olivia Delancy followed up with 10 points and three steals.
Turner’s career-high 25 points was on 11-of-15 shooting from the field. Holmes chipped in 10 points.
