Tigers Fall On Road To Houston Christian

The Texas Southern softball team fell 6-3 to Houston Christian on Tuesday evening at Husky Field.

Houston Christian (8-6) scored three runs on five hits in the first inning to lead off scoring.

Texas Southern (5-3) responded with a run at the top of the second as Madison Griggs singled and advance a base after a sac bunt by Lanay Carr. Ja’Lynn Swiney walked and Marissa Martinez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Griggs scored after Jordan McClain walked.

After a scoreless third inning for both teams, TSU broke the silence at the top of the fourth capitalizing on two Husky errors to plate Karisma Garcia. HCU would respond at the bottom of the frame with a run, to lead 4-2.

HCU took advantage of two hit by pitches and a walk to score two runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Tigers could only put up one more run at the top of the sixth as Swiney was able to reach home plate.

Griggs led the way for the Tigers as she went 3-for-2 with one run. Pamela Richardson, Saniah Henderson, and Swiney each had one hit.

Maren Berger took the loss for TSU in 4.0 innings pitched as she was tagged for four runs on six hits. Berger also walked two and struck out one. Katy Janes picked up the win for the Huskies in 4.0 innings as she gave up two runs on two hits, walked six and fanned three.

Ronni Grofman got the save in three innings as she struck out five Tigers and gave up only one run.

Texas Southern will take on Southern University in a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 8. The game will start at 5 p.m at the Hilda B. Anderson Softball Stadium.
