Tigers Compete Against California Baptist Inside H&PE Arena

•The Texas Southern women’s basketball team will compete inside the H&PE Arena against California Baptist University on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.

•The Tigers will look to break a seven game losing streak as they are coming off a 68-63 home loss to Nebraska Omaha on Monday. Sophomore Taniya Lawson led the team with a season-high 17 points as she leads the Tigers averaging 11.8 points per game.

•California Baptist (9-1) dropped its first game of the 2023-24 season, falling 77-51 to Louisiana Tech. Khloe Lemon paced the Lancer offense with 13 points.

•Lawson sits at No.9 in the SWAC for scoring, averaging 11.8 points per game.

•Jaida Belton is the third leading blocker in the SWAC having 14 in nine games played and sits at No. 10 for rebounds per game, averaging 5.8 per game.

•TSU Head Coach Vernette Skeete will look for her first career win in the month of December.

•The Tigers will have a lot to prove as they were selected to finish 11th in the Preseason SWAC Predicted Order of Finish.

• The Tigers brought in nine newcomers this year. However, they’ve lost nine letterwinners and feature a pair of new assistant coaches.
