Tigers Come Up Short In Road Loss To Mississippi Valley

The Texas Southern women’s basketball team concluded the season series against Mississippi Valley with a 71-65 loss at the Harrison HPER Complex on Saturday evening.

Texas Southern (5-20, 4-10) was led offensively by Jaida Belton who registered her second double double of the season, including 14 points and 12 boards. Nya Harmon and Tatyanna Clayburne chipped in 12 points each.

How It Happened
•Mississippi Valley (4-23 Overall, 3-11 SWAC) came out strong and had its best shooting period in the first, shooting 44 percent (8-of-18) to outscore Texas Southern, 22-14. Meanwhile, the first quarter was the Tiger’s lowest shooting period as they shot just 33 percent (5-of-15).

•There were no ties or lead changes during the entire game as the Delta Devils would keep the lead from the start.

•Mississippi Valley scored 28 points off of 25 Tiger turnovers.

•The Delta Devils had a 30-point shooter (Sh’Diamond McKnight) as she was 9-of-21 from the field and 12-of-15 from the charity stripe.

•MVSU had a 37-26 lead going into the break. The the third quarter was tied at 17 points each.

•TSU would only win the fourth quarter (22-17) as they shot 42 percent (8-of-19) from the field to Valley’s 35 percent (6-of-17) shooting from the field, but it wasn’t enough.
