Softball Falls To Grambling State Saturday Afternoon

GRAMBLING, La. – Grambling State scored twice in the fifth as Texas Southern dropped the opening contest of its road series on Saturday 2-0.

Similar to its opening series versus Alcorn State last weekend, TSU had opportunities to seize control early but couldn’t capitalize on them. TSU attempted to score in the third but had a runner thrown out at home. In the fifth with the game scoreless, GSU led the inning off with a single but TSU countered with a fielder’s choice to get the lead runner at second. GSU drew a walk followed by a steal to set up a one-out sac fly for the 1-0 lead. Another single up the middle would drive in the second run.

With one out in the sixth, Karisma Garcia singled followed by an Angel Morales’ walk. Saniah Henderson’s single loaded the bases but TSU couldn’t come through as they recorded two consecutive pop outs to end the inning. That would be TSU’s last true attempt to score as they had no base runners in the top of the seventh.

Morales finished 2-for-2 while Lailah Bell was tagged with the loss after striking out five.

The series concludes on Sunday with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
