Slow Start Derails TSU In Loss To Jackson State

Jackson State used a dominant first quarter to take control early as TSU fell 68-44 Monday night inside the H&PE Arena in women’s basketball action.

With TSU trailing 3-2 early in the first quarter, Jackson State seized the momentum as they went on a 16-2 run to close out the quarter led by eight points from Ameshya Williams. The difference in the quarter was field goal shooting as JSU shot 7-of-15 while TSU only shot 2-for-12 in the quarter. TSU picked up its defense in the second quarter as they held JSU to 6-of-19 shooting from the field while countering with a 5-for-15 effort. The difference in the contest was the free throw line as JSU hit 6-of-7 compared to only one free throw made by TSU. By the time the dust settled, JSU would claim a 38-15 halftime lead.

A slow start in the third quarter hampered any comeback effort by TSU as they only made three baskets and a free throw. TSU would begin to settle down into a rhythm in the final quarter as they outscored JSU 22-15 behind a 14-point performance from Te’Aire Hambrick and four assists from Jenay Bojorquez.

Hambrick led TSU with 14 points, four rebounds and two steals while Bojorquez scored 10 with five assists.

TSU is back in action on Saturday at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
