Reed Earns All-Tourney Honors As Volleyball Wraps Up Opening Weekend

SAN ANTONIO – Freshman Kennedy Reed earned all-tournament honors as TSU volleyball closed out its opening weekend of play with a 3-0 loss to Missouri State at the UTSA Invitational on Saturday.

Down 6-2 in set one, TSU cut the deficit in half after an assisted block from Reed and Kourtni Collier. However, five TSU attack errors led to a 6-0 Missouri State run and a 12-3 deficit. TSU would draw to within nine after Amber Johnson’s kill and Ava Ray’s ace. Missouri State pushed its lead up but TSU kept it within single digits following back-to-back Gracie Hill kills. MSU secured the set with a 4-0 run for a 25-12 win.

TSU overcame a 6-3 deficit in set two and tied it at 7-7 and 9-9. MSU scored three straight for a 12-9 lead but TSU cut it to 12-11 after Chenise Cook’s kill and Dallas Balanay-Flores’ ace. A kill from Johnson kept TSU close at 15-13 but three attack errors sparked a 5-0 run by the Bears as TSU couldn’t keep up en route to a 25-17 defeat.

The Tigers fought early in set three as they were only down four (12-8). However, a 9-2 run by the Bears put the match out of reach as they closed out with a 25-11 win.

Collier and Reed led TSU with five kills while Ray had nine assists and six digs. Collier had four assisted blocks and two solo blocks.

TSU is back in action on Tuesday at North Texas for a 6 p.m. start.
