Mitchell Named SWAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Texas Southern’s Niya Mitchell its SWAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her outstanding performance this past week of competition.

Mitchell (Bay City, Texas) opened the season with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds along with three steals and a block as TSU won its season opener against UTRGV (85-64).

Heading into this season Mitchell was also tabbed a 2020-21 Preseason All-SWAC First Team selection at the forward position for the Lady Tigers after posting impressive numbers during the 2019-20 campaign.  

TSU women’s basketball is back in action on Friday afternoon at Rice. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. and will be streamed live via CUSA.tv.
