Men’s Track & Field Opens Up 2024 With 8 Top-10 Marks In Season Opener

The TSU men’s track & field team posted eight top-10 finishes at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational hosted by University of Houston on Friday.

Brandon Washington placed fourth in the 800 as his time ranks second in the SWAC currently as he posted a mark of 1:56.71. Jose Gonzalez picked up where he left off last season with a seventh-place finish in the mile as he posted the top time (4:17.96) in the SWAC. Both Gonzalez (8:54.15) and David Livingston (9:14.19) had solid runs in the 3,000 as both rank 1-2 in the SWAC. The mile relay quartet of Kaseem Ibraheem-Washington, Michael Strange Jr., William Perry and Washington finished seventh (3:23.6) to round out the top performances in the running events.

Sophomore Turey Stoudmire placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 6-8.75 as his mark ranks second in the SWAC. Donyae Castaneda finished sixth in the long jump (22-9.25) while Elijah Jordan set a personal best with fourth-place performance in the triple jump (46-8.75).

Blaine Nunn finished fifth in the shot put and ranks fourth in the SWAC after a throw of 48-6. Jalen Walker threw a length of 51-11.25 to place ninth in the weight throw as he currently stands second in the SWAC.

TSU is back in action on Jan. 26 and Jan. 27 at the Robert Platt Invitational on the UH campus.
