Texas Southern junior forward Karl Nicholas was named the SWAC Men’s Basketball Impact Player of the Week for his performance against Grambling State this past Saturday.
In addition to the SWAC Player of the Week award, the SWAC Impact Player of the Week Award recognizes a student student-athlete which delivered an impactful performance during the designated week of competition which highlights student-athlete contributions that might not necessarily show up prominently in a box score.
Nicholas (Pearland, Texas) finished with a double-double of 13 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks while hitting a key basket in the final minute to put TSU in position to take a lead late at GSU last Saturday. The basket was big as Grambling State ultimately tied the score up on the ensuing possession which led to a game-winning basket in the closing seconds by Jordan Gilliam.
The Tigers are scheduled to host Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley State this weekend at home. A decision regarding the status of the games due to current inclement weather in the region will be made shortly.
