Men’s Basketball Cruises To Exhibition Win Over Texas College

Texas Southern received a balanced effort across the board as they cruised to a 97-55 win over Texas College in the team’s exhibition opener.

Head coach Johnny Jones used Thursday’s opener to experiment with a variety of lineups as he constantly rotated players throughout the game. With several games under their belt, Texas College hung tough for the first few minutes as they were tied with TSU at 10-all. From that point, the Tigers settled down and gave the crowd plenty to cheer for with an 11-0 run as five players scored.

TSU never looked back from that point as they pushed the lead up to 27 on two occasions late in the first half before settling for a 46-22 halftime lead.

The Tigers kept their foot on the gas in the second half as they led by 40-plus on several occasions. Tiger fans also caught a glimpse of the present and the future as TSU’s four freshmen closed out the half and provided moments of excitement.

Everyone except one player would score for TSU as Karl Nicholas led the way with 12 points followed by 11 from Justin Hopkins. Newcomer Brison Gresham and freshman Davon Barnes had six rebounds apiece while PJ henry dished out five assists. Gresham also had five blocks followed by two from Nicholas.

TSU opens the 2021-22 regular season in Eugene, Ore. on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m.
