Late Comeback Falls Short As Tigers Fall In Buck O’Neil Classic

KANSAS CITY, Kansas – Kansas pulled away late to hand TSU an 8-5 loss in the annual Buck O’Neil Classic at Legends Field Tuesday night.
 
Kansas plated three runs in the second as they hit a one-out solo homer and was helped by a pair of TSU errors to lead 3-0.
 
TSU answered in the fourth as Alexander Olivo and Roderick Coffee led off with back-to-back hits which forced a pitching change. KU recorded two straight outs but an error allowed Victor Molina to reach base as Coffee and Olivo both scored.
 
With two outs in the fourth, KU singled, walked and singled again for a 4-2 lead. They added another run in the fifth with two more homers in the sixth to lead 7-2. An RBI single upped the margin to 8-2 in the eighth but TSU attempted a late comeback as Olivo hit a three-run homer in the ninth for an 8-5 deficit.
 
Olivo finished 3-for5 with two runs and three RBI while CJ Castillo also had two hits.
 
The series concludes in Lawrence, Kansas on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
